French silver lipstick holder circa 1940 on sterling silver chain

£95.00

This is an unusual find! I would guess it was made between 1940-1960. It is French and has the correct markings for sterling silver as the makers mark is in a rhombus shape. The piece is beautifully made but has signs of wear. The black plastic outer case has faded to a shade of navy and there is a small dent on one end, and a tiny marquisite stone missing from the circle where the two parts of the holder meet. The propelling mechanism still works but doesn’t move the lipstick end very far. Because one end of the holder is heavier than the other, I had to find a way of rebalancing the lighter end so that it lies flat when worn as a piece of jewellery. I did this by putting a new but broken sterling silver chain into the lighter end and that seemed to do the trick.

The holder is a fraction over two inches long and I have placed it on a 20 inch 3.9mm trace chain which is fairly chunky as the item itself weighs 25 grams. Please contact me if you wish to have a price without the chain.

Grandma’s Spoons jewellery is created from antique and vintage silver which will inevitably show signs of age. This is an intrinsic part of their charm. All items are in a presentation box and next day special delivery by Royal Mail is included in the price.
